Dr Diarmuid McCoy is a specialist pain medicine physician who treats patients at St John of God Geelong Hospital.

Dr McCoy graduated from the University College of Cork, before undertaking vocational training at St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. He worked as a Senior Fellow at Flinders University in Adelaide, before taking up a position as a consultant pain medicine physician at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool. He returned to Australia in 2004, where he has since been based in Geelong.

Dr McCoy is a senior lecturer at Deakin University Medical School. A fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine at ANZCA he is a member of the Training Unit Assessment Committee and the Victoria Regional Committee of FPM. He chairs the Professional Standards Committee at the faculty.

Dr McCoy frequently speaks at state, national and international meetings and he has authored a number of peer reviewed papers and a book chapter on the subject of pain.

His interest and expertise are in persistent pain managed in a multidisciplinary setting and with over 20 years’ experience in the use of neuromodulation, he has a specific interest in appropriate selection of patients for this type of treatment.
