We provide hospitality, healing and hope to everyone in our care.

Our guiding principles and service ethos

As a Ministry of the Catholic Church, St John of God Health Care delivers care inspired by the healing Mission of Jesus Christ. As one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit Catholic health care providers, we are committed to offering hospitality, hope and healing to everyone in our care, and to all caregivers working with us.

Our Vision

We are recognised for care that provides healing, hope and a greater sense of dignity, especially to those most in need.

Our Mission

To continue the healing mission of Jesus.

Our Values

Our core Values reflect our heritage and guide our behaviours.

  • Hospitality

A welcoming openness, providing material and spiritual comfort to all.

  • Compassion

Feeling with others and striving to understand their lives, experiences, discomfort and suffering, with a willingness to reach out in solidarity.

  • Respect

Treasuring the unique dignity of every person and recognising the sacredness of all creation.

  • Justice

A balanced and fair relationship with self, neighbour, all of creation and with God.

  • Excellence

Striving for excellence in the care and services we provide.

Our service ethos

Service is central to how we bring our Mission to life at St John of God Health Care.

Our formation and development programs aim to support and grow our caregivers in providing distinctive service. The key tenets of our service ethos are:

  • Our Mission inspires our service – we are continuing a great story of service entrusted to us by our founders.
  • Relationships are central – every encounter is an opportunity and can have far-reaching effects.
  • The way we work together as a community, in our own teams and with other teams, is integral in our effectiveness.
  • Governance and management of resources are key to our success.
  • Feedback and evaluation about how well we are doing is crucial.

The meaning behind our logo

At the heart of our logo is the pomegranate set within a cross, symbolising both our heritage and our future. The pomegranate, the original emblem of the Sisters of St John of God, reflects our enduring Mission, while also representing growth and new life. Its 5 seeds embody our core Values and are shown open and scattering, signifying generosity, self-giving and our commitment to those most in need.

The cross represents our Christian foundation, reminding us of Jesus’s suffering and our call to follow in His footsteps through compassionate care and service.
