About us

We are a leading not-for-profit, for-purpose provider of high-quality health care and community services.

Compassionate, committed and connected care

We are a leading not-for-profit, for-purpose provider of high-quality health care and community services. We play a vital role in Australian health care, and exist to benefit the community by supporting our patients, our caregivers, and those with the greatest unmet health needs.

Our commitment to compassionate, Mission-driven care runs deep. Established in 1895 by the Sisters of St John of God, we remain inspired by their generous spirit to go beyond what might be expected.

Today, we are one of Australia’s largest private hospital operators and not-for-profit Catholic health care providers. We employ more than 15,000 dedicated caregivers across Australia, New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region. We operate 25 outstanding health care facilities with more than 3,200 beds, and provide a wide range of free community wellbeing support services, health care at home and disability services.

Our services

Hospital operations and nursing

We are a highly experienced not-for-profit health care provider and hospital operator, with a network of private hospitals across Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.

Most of our facilities provide acute care, and we are recognised for our expertise in maternity, oncology and orthopaedic services.

We also operate St John of God Midland Public Hospital in Western Australia in partnership with the WA Government.

In addition to our general hospitals, we operate 3 specialist mental health facilities: St John of God Richmond and Burwood Hospitals in New South Wales, St John of God Langmore Centre in Victoria, and our dedicated rehabilitation facility - St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital in south-east Melbourne.

Across our hospital group we provide more than 3,200 beds. Between 2024-25 we cared for more than 409,000 overnight and same-day patients, performed over 600 daily surgeries, and supported more than 58,000 admissions for cancer care. We welcomed more than 10,000 newborns and are the leading provider of private maternity services in Western Australia.

Beyond our hospitals, we provide care in the home through St John of God Healthcare at Home. This service delivers acute, post-acute and community-based care to both privately and publicly funded clients, with more than 67,000 at-home visits provided in the past financial year alone.

We also manage a range of public and community health care contracts, further extending our reach and impact within the communities we serve.

Social outreach services

Our Vision clearly affirms our responsibility to support those most in need. Through St John of God Social Outreach we continued this commitment in 2024–25 by delivering free or low-cost community and social outreach services to vulnerable communities. Over the past year we provided $29.1 million in support across 56 locations, reaching more than 5,900 individuals.

Disability services

We provide disability services in Victoria, and across multiple locations in New Zealand:

St John of God Accord partners with people with disability to support them in living fulfilling and meaningful lives. It offers a comprehensive range of tailored services, including short term respite, supported independent living, support coordination, allied health, 1:1 support and group programs. St John of God Accord is a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider operating across metropolitan Melbourne.

In New Zealand, St John of God Hauora Trust is a leading provider of disability, youth and social services. It delivers supportive, person-centred care to people living with disability, as well as to vulnerable children, young people and families, helping to strengthen individuals and communities alike.

St John of God Foundation

St John of God Foundation is the fundraising and philanthropic arm of St John of God Health Care. Through the generosity of our donors, the Foundation is dedicated to advancing leading medical research and innovative technologies that improve lives and create hope, both now and into the future.

The Foundation raises vital funds to support the development of new patient therapies, invest in advanced medical technology and enable more personalised treatment options. It also plays an important role in progressing research that enhances our ability to diagnose, treat and ultimately cure disease.

The ongoing support of our donors, partners and broader community makes a meaningful difference to patient outcomes, often transforming and saving lives.

Group services

St John of God Health Care hospitals and community health services are supported by a range of corporate and group service functions. Most of these teams are based at our head office on Wellington Street in Perth, with a smaller number located at our Collins Street office in Melbourne.

Additional specialised functions operate from our warehouse facilities in O’Connor, Western Australia and Wendouree, Victoria.
