Our approach to supporting young people at risk of homelessness
St John of God Horizon House provides safe, stable accommodation and tailored support for young people aged 16 to 22 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Western Australia and Victoria.
Many young people who come to Horizon House have experienced significant challenges, including family conflict, disrupted education, trauma, mental health issues, substance use or unemployment.
At Horizon House, we provide strengths-based, trauma-informed care that recognises each young person’s unique experiences, abilities and goals. Our role is not to replace parents or guardians, but to support young people to develop the skills, confidence and connections they need to move forward independently.
Our dedicated caregivers work alongside young people to understand who they are, what matters to them and what they want to achieve, providing consistent support in a safe and respectful environment.
Our Community Services Charter outlines your rights and responsibilities and explains what you can expect when engaging with St John of God Horizon House.
Horizon House Young Parents Program
We have three homes dedicated to supporting young and expecting parents. Beyond safe accommodation, they offer practical guidance and emotional support to help prepare for the baby’s arrival and build confidence in the parenting journey.
To access our services, fill in a referral form. Once we receive the form, a caregiver from the relevant house will contact you to see if the program is a good fit. If it looks suitable, we’ll ask for references and let you know if a place is available.

We provide you with a safe and supportive environment to develop the skills and access the support you need to look after yourself and live independently. Our houses are a judgement-free space. We share the cooking and cleaning and host regular group activities to help you get to know your housemates (e.g. games nights, bike rides, walks and shared BBQ dinners). We also invite you to celebrate birthdays and Christmas as a group. There are regular house meetings to ensure everyone feels comfortable in the house and is across what’s coming up. Watch this video to find out more.
All young people have their own bedroom that comes furnished. This includes a single bed and bassinet for the young parents program. Bed linen and towels are also provided. The bedrooms have a privacy lock that cannot be accessed by other young people. Bathrooms, kitchen and living areas are all communal spaces that you share with other young people.
The rent/board at Horizon House is $115 per week. This includes household bills like electricity and internet, as well as groceries for main meals. If you don’t have any money coming in at the moment, don’t worry. Our team of caregivers can help you access any Centrelink payments that you may be entitled to.
Visitors are allowed at all Horizon Houses. To maintain the health and safety of everyone they need to be discussed with staff first. Please note visitors are not able to stay overnight.
The initial phase of Horizon House is a 12 month stay. During this time we will be helping you search for longer term accommodation and develop your independence – not everyone needs the full 12 months, others do.
Unfortunately, we aren’t set up to provide accommodation for older siblings.
We are not set up to provide accommodation for partners but please speak to your Support Coordinator about arrangements for your partner to visit regularly.
