Our approach to mental health and wellbeing support
St John of God Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Network (DAWN) is a free and confidential home-based drug and alcohol withdrawal service delivered by experienced clinical nurse specialists in Perth and Peel regions, Western Australia.
St John of God Mental Wellbeing Services provides low or no-cost mental health support to people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief, adjustment difficulties and other mental health challenges in Western Australia and Victoria.
Life is full of ups and downs, curveballs and crises. Whatever you are facing, our experienced mental health clinicians are here to listen and help. We offer person-centred, evidence-based counselling and therapy, tailored to your individual needs.
Working in partnership with your GP and local health services, we focus on practical strategies to support your mental wellbeing and everyday life. Our services are grounded in compassion, respect and dignity, ensuring you feel supported at every step of your care journey.

Mental health treatment and services
We provide flexible, home-based withdrawal support tailored to individual needs, including:
- Individual counselling: One-on-one sessions providing personalised support.
- Group therapy: A supportive space to connect with others facing similar challenges.
- Specialised mental health treatment: For people living with ongoing or complex mental health conditions.
- Telehealth mental health services: Available where clinically appropriate (suitability is assessed by a clinician).
- Aged Care Program: Emotional and mental health support for people in aged care facilities (available in Greater Bendigo, Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander Shires only).

Accessing mental health support
To access our services, you will need:
- A GP referral
- A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)
Once these are in place, you can contact your nearest St John of God Mental Wellbeing Service to speak to our friendly caregivers, who can assist you in arranging your first appointment. In most cases, there is no out-of-pocket cost, with services funded through Medicare.
