Our approach to drug and alcohol withdrawal support
St John of God Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Network (DAWN) is a free and confidential home-based drug and alcohol withdrawal service delivered by experienced clinical nurse specialists in Perth and Peel regions, Western Australia.
Anyone can struggle with alcohol or drug use, especially during stressful times. If you’re ready to reduce or stop using alcohol or drugs, our team provides practical, one-on-one support to help you take the next step.
Our specialist nurses work with you and include your family or support network. We help you understand your triggers, set goals, work with your GP and connect with other services when needed - all at your pace, in your own home.
This service is available to people 16 years and older and our care is grounded in respect, dignity and compassion, ensuring you feel supported and understood throughout your care journey.

This service is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the Mental Health Commission.
Treatment and services
We provide flexible, home-based withdrawal support tailored to individual needs, including:
- Comprehensive assessment to determine the right level of care
- Medicated or non-medicated withdrawal plans delivered at home
- Close collaboration with GPs throughout treatment
- Regular home visits and telephone support from specialist nurses
- Specialist case management, with clinicians available to support GPs by phone during consultations
- Education and support for individuals, families and carers
- Referrals to counselling, rehabilitation and other ongoing support services
Support for people caring for others
Caring for others can take a toll on your own wellbeing. It’s important to look after yourself and seek support if things start to feel overwhelming. Help is available, and you don’t have to manage it alone.

Accessing support
This service can be accessed through a self-referral or referral by a GP or other community or government service, including mental health services, corrective services and the Department of Communities.
Once a referral is received, a member of our team will make contact to discuss needs and determine the most appropriate support options.

- Aged 16 years and over
- Would like to safely reduce or stop their use of alcohol and or drug use
