Free emotional support services
Through pregnancy and the early years
Are you struggling with the emotional highs and lows of pregnancy or parenting? Is it affecting your life, wellbeing or relationships, particularly with your little one? You’re not alone.
Many mums and dads struggle during what can be a joyful but often overwhelming time. And our counsellors and therapists are here to help, with free support that empowers you to:
- deal with challenges
- build a healthy relationship and bond with your baby
- thrive as a family
From conception to baby’s fourth birthday, from prenatal testing to pregnancy loss, you can rely on our specialist advice and support.
A more enjoyable, fulfilling parenting experience starts here
The sooner you reach out for help, the sooner you and your baby will be able to bond and move forward. So, if you feel like it’s time to talk, the first step is to see your GP, who can refer you to a St John of God Raphael Services.
How does it work?
Once your GP has referred you to our team, we’ll conduct an initial assessment. We’ll ask you about your current and past mental health, and what’s been going on during your pregnancy or since becoming a parent.
Your support plan may include:
- Individual counselling. One-on-one meetings with a clinician for perinatal mental health counselling and therapy sessions, which we can conduct via telehealth (phone or video)
- Group therapy. A valuable opportunity to connect with other parents experiencing similar feelings and challenges
- Psychiatric support. Treatment for mental health issues, including prescriptions for medication, if necessary
Read our frequently asked questions for more information about how appointments work and perinatal anxiety and depression.
