Professor Shirley Bowen - Chief Executive Officer

Professor Shirley Bowen is the Chief Executive Officer of SJG Subiaco Hospital having been appointed in June 2017. Prior to joining the hospital she was Dean, School of Medicine, Fremantle at the University of Notre Dame. 

Prof Bowen has more than 20 years' experience in executive management of Hospitals and public health, starting her management career as the Chief Medical Officer of the ACT. She has also held the position of Director of Communicable Diseases for Western Australia. Her hospital management career started in the role of Director of Clinical Services at Fremantle Hospital where she subsequently Acted as the Executive Director for more than 2 years before moving into private medicine. Thereafter Prof Bowen undertook the role of Director of Medical Services at SJG Murdoch Hospital before moving to Notre Dame. 

Prof Bowen holds dual Fellowships in Infectious Diseases (FRACP) and Sexual Health medicine (FAChSHM) and has also maintained her clinical practice over the last 30 years. 

Shirley has a passion for excellent patient care and is committed to visible and authentic leadership.

Dr Eva Denholm - Director Medical Services

Jenny Brenton - Director Nursing, Clinical Operations and Excellence

Jenny Brenton was appointed in January 2018 and is responsible for leading the hospital’s nursing and midwifery services on clinical matters and the provision of exceptional patient-centred care. 

Jenny brings a wealth of skills in clinical nursing, change management and leadership to the role, having previously worked as Director of Nursing at Armadale Hospital and in various senior positions at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, the State Acute Demand Unit and St John of God Murdoch Hospital. Her qualifications include a postgraduate Diploma in Coaching, Mentoring and Interpersonal Facilitation and she is currently studying a postgraduate Certificate in Organisational Change.

Colin Young – Director of Finance

Colin Young is responsible for all aspects of financial governance for the hospital and was appointed in June 2016. Prior roles include Director of Finance and Operations at St John of God Murdoch Hospital and Business Manager at the Mount Hospital.

Colin has extensive senior management experience in the delivery of finance services in health care organisations Australia wide. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Economics and Finance, a Masters of Accounting and is a Certified Practising Accountant.

Andy Wheble - Director Corporate Services

Andy Wheble was appointed Director Corporate Services in August 2017. Prior roles include General Manager Operations South for Activ Foundation, FM Operations Director at Fiona Stanley Hospital and senior operational and project roles in the United Kingdom.

Andy has extensive experience in operational delivery, project, program and transformational management in both the public and private sectors, and diploma level qualifications in health and safety management and project management.

Jennifer Healey - Director of Mission Integration

Jennifer Healey was appointed in October 2017 and is responsible for supporting the Chief Executive Officer and executive team in providing leadership that seeks to strengthen and facilitate the Mission of St John of God Health Care. 

Jennifer has a breadth of experience in leadership with prior roles including Principal of Loreto Nedlands and Director of the Office of University Relations at The University of Notre Dame Australia. Her professional qualifications include a Master of Religious Education, Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching.

Jane Tuckey - Deputy Director of Nursing, Perioperative Services

Jane Tuckey oversees all aspects of the hospital’s 18 theatres, cardiac and vascular interventional and day surgery functions including our stand-alone St John of God Wembley Day Surgery Facility to ensure the highest quality of service and patient care.

Jane has 33 years’ nursing experience including 16 years working in perioperative management and leadership at the hospital and was appointed to her current role in February 2014. She is currently completing her Graduate Certificate in Business Administration. 

David Lyle - Deputy Director Nursing, Inpatient Services

David Lyle was appointed in February 2015 and is responsible for inpatient medical and surgical wards including intensive care, coronary care and the Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre. He was previously Manager of Surgical Services at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland and General Manager Governance, Risk and Quality with the Bethanie Group in WA.

David has over 25 years’ experience in acute nursing, aged and community services, governance and management. He holds Bachelor Degrees in Nursing and Health Science, a Masters in Health Informatics and post graduate diplomas in critical care, cancer nursing and infection control.

Heather Marin - Acting Deputy Director of Nursing South Block and Critical Care

Heather was appointed Acting Deputy Director Nursing, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Newborn and Paediatric Services in October 2016. She is passionate about supporting women during childbirth and has 44 years of nursing and midwifery experience, including 24 years as a nurse unit manager in our midwifery ward.

Heather is an international board certified lactation consultant, a Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) national assessor, a member of the Eleanor Harvey Nurses' Society committee, and was a professional advisor to the Nurses Board of WA between 2004-2010. She also completed a postgraduate certificate in leadership in 2012.

Fay Winter – Director Quality and Risk

Fay Winter provides leadership and strategic direction for the hospital’s quality and risk program since her appointment in December 2014. Previously, she was Group Manager, Service Quality and Effectiveness, St John of God Social Outreach and Director of Quality and Risk Management, St John of God Murdoch Hospital for six years.

A Registered Nurse, Fay has more than 30 years’ health care experience with a Masters in Health Service Management and Research, post graduate qualifications in marketing, project management, occupational health and safety, a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Catholic Culture and will soon complete Diplomas in Training Design and Development and Vocational Education and Training.
