Community and social outreach

Charity of the year

We support our community and each year we choose a charity to support that forms the basis for all our fundraising activities.

Our charity of the year for 2016 is RUAH’s Harmony Place, which provides short term crisis accommodation and support to mothers and their children who are victims of family and domestic violence.

CartWheels art program

This new program at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital reflects our commitment to the health, healing and wellbeing of our patients.

A team of volunteers, led by our Project Officer for Arts and Health, take a mobile art studio to the wards, offering patients a range of activities such as drawing, painting, textiles and craft. Volunteers visit the Restorative Unit, the Ursula Frayne Unit and our Specialist Rehabilitation Service, where patients typically have longer stays with us.

We encourage our patients to take part in creative art activities, and research proves it has a positive effect on physical and mental wellbeing and recovery.
