Whistleblowing

Whistleblowing enables individuals to protect their identity when reporting any suspected unethical, illegal, fraudulent or undesirable conduct or behaviour. Individuals can raise their concerns without fear of intimidation, disadvantage or reprisal.

We provide a framework for reporting misconduct through the organisation’s whistleblowing policy.

What is whistleblowing?

Whistleblowing enables individuals to protect their identity when reporting any suspected unethical, illegal, fraudulent or undesirable conduct or behaviour. Individuals can raise their concerns without fear of intimidation, disadvantage or reprisal.

St John of God Health Care’s whistleblowing policy adheres to protection provisions set out in the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and the Taxation Administration Act 1953 (Cth).

Examples of conduct that can be reported under the whistleblowing policy includes:

  • Dishonest, fraudulent or corrupt conduct
  • Illegal activity, such as theft or improper use of illicit/prescription drugs, violence, criminal damage against property, harassment, intimidation or other suspected breaches of State or Federal law
  • Offering or accepting a bribe
  • Unethical behaviours such as dishonesty, or wilfully breaching St John of God Health Care’s Code of Conduct
  • Any activity that presents a danger to the public.

Personal work related grievances are NOT reportable, unless they meet certain criteria. Refer to the policy below for details.

How to raise your concerns

You can make a disclosure using the independent Your Call service, which is available to receive disclosures via telephone or online:

Your Call will bring your information or concerns to St John of God Health Care’s attention promptly, while keeping your identity confidential (if you choose to remain anonymous).

You can also make a disclosure to St John of God Health Care’s disclosure officers, or to an eligible recipient as set out in the whistleblowing policy.

Confidentiality

You have a right to confidentiality and anonymity when making a disclosure under the whistleblowing policy.

Investigations

St John of God Health Care will review all reports and, if necessary, arrange for the matter be investigated.

If wrongdoing is proven, appropriate action will be taken in line with our whistleblowing policy.
