Established in 1935, our acute care facility provides both private and public health care services in a relaxed and caring environment.
Our 60-bed hospital features modern operating theatres, a Day Procedure Unit and medical, surgical and maternity wards. We have a purpose built hospice that provides compassionate, inpatient palliative care to the region.
Diagnostic support in our hospital consists of state of the art medical imaging services, including an MRI scanner and pathology.
Our onsite specialist centre provides consulting suites for both permanent and visiting doctors from a wide range of specialties who provide tailored care, reducing your need to travel to Perth to receive high quality care.

Bendat House Geraldton
Bendat House Geraldton, a St John of God Horizon House, provides accommodation and support to young people aged 16 to 22 years who are currently experiencing or are at serious risk of homelessness.
Snuggles Geraldton mothers group
Our midwives work with Centacare Geraldton to facilitate the Snuggles for Mums and Bubs group — a support group for new mothers. The group meets weekly during school terms and covers a wide range of mothercraft skills.

Community leave for caregivers
We encourage and support the participation of caregivers in voluntary community service for the disadvantaged by providing community support leave, which is a form of paid and unpaid leave.
Indigenous scholarships
We offer 2 annual scholarships to indigenous students who are studying registered or enrolled nursing.
To be eligible applicants must attend the Central Regional TAFE or Geraldton Universities Centre.

Community soup program
Our kitchen prepares soup twice a week for the Red Cross and Sun City Christian Centre’s Soup Program. Soup is delivered to people in need in our local community by volunteers.
Consumer engagement
We look to address the needs and preferences of our consumers, carers and their families by seeking out, understanding and responding to experiences and expectations about their health care.
Our Consumer Advisory Group is a key part of this consultative process. Members are representatives of the local community who have experienced hospital care either as a patient, carer or loved one of someone who has used our services.
The members provide a consumer or carers’ perspective and feedback about a variety of hospital outcomes and services.

History of St John of God Geraldton Hospital
The Sisters of St John of God arrived in 1935 in Geraldton at the request of Bishop O’Collins to provide hospital services in the region. They started their work in poor conditions with few resources. The hospital first opened as a two-storey, 28-bed facility. In 1969, major renovations and extensions were added which increased bed capacity to 70.
In the late 1980s, the hospital’s design was no longer functional and communities within Geraldton and the Mid West rallied to raise $1.6 million towards building a new hospital. In April 1992, the new 60-bed, single-storey hospital opened.
The new facility includes a chapel, two birthing suites, day and overnight ward areas, two operating suites, medical imaging, pathology services and administration offices. In 1997 a dedicated hospice unit was introduced. The hospital auxiliary and local Variety Club helped raise money to build our children’s playground which opened in 2002, and the following year we extended our specialist centre to accommodate increased demand for specialist services.
The legacy of The Sisters, defined by a commitment to serving the local community, continues today and informs the distinctive care for which the hospital is still renowned. St John of God Hospital Geraldton has become, and will continue to be, an integral part of this growing region; providing compassionate care and support to the people of the Mid West.
