At St John of God Geraldton Hospital, we want your maternity journey to be a positive experience — from your first appointment to the aftercare following the birth of your baby.
When you choose our private maternity service, you can select your own private obstetrician to care for you throughout your pregnancy, labour and postnatal period. Having the same obstetrician throughout your maternity journey allows you to build a trusted relationship and feel more confident and comfortable in your care.
Geraldton obstetricians
Your birth experience at St John of God Geraldton Hospital
Feeling informed and supported during the birth of your baby is important. We encourage you to discuss your preferences and birth plans with your obstetrician so you can make informed decisions with professional guidance every step of the way.
Our experienced midwives will support you throughout labour and birth, ensuring you feel cared for every step of the way.
Our birthing suites
- Birth slings: Soft fabric supports that can help you stay upright and move more comfortably during contractions.
- Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) machines: A form of non-medical pain relief that uses gentle electrical pulses to help reduce and distract from the pain of contractions.
- Birth stools: Specially designed stools that support upright birthing positions and use gravity to assist during labour. Please speak with your obstetrician about whether a birth stool is suitable for you.
Private patient rooms
After your baby is born, you will be transferred to your own private room so you can rest, recover and spend precious time getting to know your baby.
Your room is a private space for you, your baby and your partner to stay in until you are ready to go home. Each room is designed with comfort and convenience in mind, and includes:
- a comfortable bed
- a cot for your baby
- a baby bath
- a kitchenette for preparing light meals and snacks
- a dining area.
Some rooms include a queen-size bed, while others have a fold-out bed to allow your partner to stay overnight with you in comfort.
Please note: partners may be able to stay overnight through your private health insurance, depending on your level of cover, or at an additional cost.
Maternity ward tours
We offer maternity ward tours so you can become familiar with our facilities and feel more prepared for your stay.
Tours can be booked from 20 weeks of pregnancy, and you may also arrange an additional visit during your 36-week antenatal appointment.
