Management team

Introducing our management team led by our Chief Executive Officer Michael Hogan.

Michael Hogan - Chief Executive Officer

Michael has oversight of the day-to-day hospital operations as the Chief Executive Officer. He has significant experience in healthcare management having previously worked as Deputy CEO of the hospital, CEO of the former St John of God Pathology, where he led its integration with Clinical Labs, and St John of God Bendigo Hospital. Michael is also a chartered accountant.

Royce Vermeulen – Chief Operating Officer

Royce has more than 20 years’ experience working in a variety of roles in the health sector, including senior health service and facility project roles. Formerly a physiotherapist, Royce has completed a Masters in Business Administration from The University of Western Australia. Previously Royce worked for Serco Asia Pacific (Fiona Stanley Hospital), Aurora Projects and the South Metropolitan Area Health Service.

Dr Anthony Bell - Director of Medical Services 

Anthony is an emergency physician with 25 years’ experience in clinical practice and leadership experience in emergency departments, aero-medical retrieval, hospital medical services (public and private sector), state-wide clinical networks, research collaborations, strategic healthcare committees and clinical redesign programmes. Part of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine leadership alumni and a Fulbright Scholar, Anthony has a keen interest in evidence-based health policy and value-based healthcare. He holds a Masters of Business Administration, a Masters of Public Health and retains Fellowships of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, Royal Australasian College for Medical Administrators and Australasian College for Health Service Management. Anthony is also the Chair of the Western Australian Clinical Senate for the Department of Health. He has previously worked for South Metropolitan Health Service, UnitingCare Health, Queensland Health and LifeFlight.

Janet Jones - Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Clinical Governance

Janet has extensive experience in senior level nursing and is passionate about safety and quality. Previously, Janet was a Nurse Director at Fiona Stanley Hospital, overseeing a range of inpatient and outpatient medical services.  Prior to the role, Janet was the Program Manager Transition and Decommissioning at Swan Kalamunda Health Services and worked closely with our then Midland Project Team to successfully transition Swan District Hospital services, staff and patients to our hospital. Janet holds a Masters of Nursing from Edith Cowan University and a postgraduate diploma in infection control. 

Gareth Jones – Director of Finance and Business Services

Gareth has more than 30 years’ experience in financial, governance and commercial leadership. He is qualified as a chartered accountant and has completed a Masters Business Administration from the University of Warwick Business School. He is a member of the Governance Institute of Australia and Association of Accounting Technicians. Previously Gareth has worked at Poseidon Nickel, Vodafone UK and British Gas.

Michele Allum - Director of Mission Integration

Michele focuses on shaping the organisational culture to ensure the innate dignity of each person is valued and upheld. She works to ensure the Values of St John of God Health Care are brought to life by the way in which all caregivers treat one another, our patients and their loved ones. She also engages widely with an extensive range of individuals and groups to ensure community needs are understood. Michele's career spans more than 25 years’ experience across private sector, public sector, health care and not-for-profit services.

Sarah Tegeler - Director Strategy and Service Development

Sarah has worked for almost 20 years in the health care sector, starting her career as a physiotherapist at Fremantle Hospital as well as working in United Kingdom-based hospitals. She then moved into project management roles and was involved in the commissioning of Fiona Stanley Hospital and St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals. Sarah has completed a Masters in Business Administration from The University of Western Australia.
