Our new St John of God Midland Private Hospital will significantly expand access to high-quality private health care in Perth’s eastern corridor, offering a wide range of medical and surgical services including interventional cardiology - a first for the region.

The new 17,000m2 facility off Watertank Way in Midland will include 96 overnight inpatient beds including a six-bed critical care/high dependency unit, 24 bed and six chair short stay and day procedure unit, four general theatres, two procedure rooms and a cardiac/vascular catheter laboratory.

The hospital will more than double private bed capacity in the area and is being delivered at pace to meet strong demand and ensure a smooth transition of private services from the current St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals planned for mid-2026.

This project reflects St John of God Health Care’s ongoing commitment to investing in capital developments that enhance both caregiver and patient experience. Frequently asked questions

St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospital opened in November 2015, replacing the old Swan District Hospital. The investment demonstrated a commitment by the WA State Government to enhance public hospital services to the eastern suburbs of Perth and the wider Wheatbelt region.

The co-located campus includes the 307-bed St John of God Midland Public Hospital and the 60-bed St John of God Midland Private Hospital. The private hospital beds are configured into two, 30-bed wards. In June 2023, the State Treasury triggered their contractual right to purchase the 60 private beds for public patient use, effective from 1 July 2026. This will result in the current hospital campus becoming a fully public 367 bed public hospital in the 2026/2027 financial year.
It is currently under construction and is expected that the new hospital will open in August 2026.
It will be located off Watertank Way, Midland in WA.
