Our history
In January 2024, St John of God Health Care announced they were set to deliver a brand new standalone private hospital in Midland, the first of its kind for Perth’s eastern suburbs and the wider Wheatbelt region.
Following the State Government’s buyback of the 60 private beds at the existing co-located St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals campus in mid-2026, the new hospital ensures continued access to high-quality private care in the region.
Construction of the hospital commenced in 2024 and in August 2025, the hospital marked its structural ‘topping out’, a major milestone towards becoming the region’s leading private health care facility.
About the design
Every aspect from the latest medical technology to its thoughtful patient-focused design has been considered for the new hospital.
The hospital is bounded by the Helena River to the South and the historic railway precinct to the North with many of the original locomotive workshops constructed in the early 1900s still standing to reflect the sites rich industrial history.
Through connection to country, heritage interpretation and green infrastructure the hospital’s design aims to create an environment that offers respite, promotes healing and tells the story of the place.
Art at the hospital
The hospital will feature a series of impressive public artwork installations including a major 3D sculpture, and a selection of 2D murals throughout the hospital façade and grounds. Inside the hospital, visual artwork from the St John of God Health Care Art Collection will be displayed throughout ward corridors, patient lounges and communal spaces creating an inspiring and uplifting environment for patients and caregivers.
