St John of God Richmond Hospital has been internationally recognised for design excellence:

  • Highly commended at the 2025 European Healthcare Design Awards held in June — celebrating global excellence in environments that promote health and wellbeing.
  • Shortlisted for the 2025 INDE.Awards — the Indo-Pacific’s leading architecture and design awards.

These accolades affirm the hospital’s visionary approach to mental health care — creating a healing environment that promotes dignity, connection and holistic wellbeing.

Delivered in collaboration with Studio STH, the redevelopment was shaped by a clear vision: to deliver a compassionate, therapeutic facility that places the patient at the centre. The Wellness Centre is a key feature of this work and offers a gym, indoor pool, yoga studio, and therapy spaces within a tranquil and restorative setting.

The broader design embraces a ‘village’ layout, with individual pavilions and landscaped courtyards arranged around Belmont House, a restored heritage building that connects the hospital’s history to its modern mission. This neighbourhood-style approach fosters community, reduces isolation, and supports recovery through both private sanctuary and shared connection.

This recognition reflects St John of God Health Care’s commitment to delivering healing environments that transform lives.

Winners of the INDE.Awards will be announced on 31 July 2025.
