Amanda Owen, a dedicated midwife at St John of God Berwick Hospital, has been awarded the St John of God Health Care Midwifery Scholarship, supporting her pursuit of a Graduate Certificate in Midwifery Diagnostics and Prescribing.
“Receiving the scholarship was an honour because it highlights St John of God Health Care shares my vision about providing excellent care,” she said.
“Completing additional qualifications through the scholarship continues with the vision of providing options for our service.
“I feel incredibly grateful that St John of God Health Care has made this investment in both myself and maternity services.”
With few endorsed midwives in the country, Amanda recognises the importance of this scholarship in advancing midwifery practice.
“St John of God Health Care has provided scholarships for many midwives, which highlights the organisation’s commitment to providing an ongoing obstetric service.”
Looking ahead, Amanda is eager to contribute to a new model of care within St John of God Health Care—one that fosters greater collaboration between midwives and obstetricians.
“Providing choice and options will enable more women to birth at our hospitals, and having more midwives credentialed as endorsed midwives will support the establishment of this model of care,” she explains.
As a caregiver at St John of God Health Care for the past 10 years, Amanda remains passionate about supporting women through their birthing journeys.
“I thoroughly enjoy working for our organisation and I am proud that women enjoy birthing with us.”
Scholarship recipients are announced each year on 8 March to coincide with St John of God Day celebrations.
