Dr David McCoubrie appointed Chief Medical Officer at St John of God Health Care
St John of God Health Care is pleased to announce the permanent appointment of Dr David McCoubrie as Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Dr McCoubrie has served as Acting CMO since September 2024 and was previously Director of Medical Services at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, a role he has held since 2022. With over two decades of experience in clinical leadership, emergency medicine, and health system administration, David brings an exceptional depth of expertise to this role.
As Acting CMO, David played a key role in strengthening clinical governance across our hospitals, working closely with Directors of Medical Services to support the delivery of patient-centred, high quality, and Mission-driven care. He has been a valued contributor to executive decision-making, consistently advocating for the clinical perspective on the St John of God Health Care Executive Committee.
David is a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and continues to practice in the tertiary public health sector. He has led high performing clinical teams and brings a proven track record of innovation and patient-centred care. His previous experience includes eight years as Director of Emergency Medicine, and leadership roles within the National and WA Poisons Information Centres, and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney.
David has also served in several influential positions, including as a Board Director and Vice President of the Australian Medical Association WA, Chair of the Public Hospital Doctors Committee, and member of the WA Therapeutic Advisory Group.
