More than 85 per cent of graduates have said they would recommend the graduate programs at St John of God Health Care to other nursing and midwifery graduates looking to take the next step in their graduate career.

With 185 graduate nurses and midwives starting with the organisation in their first of two intakes for 2024, St John of God Health Care Chief People Officer Carla Bonev says there are several reasons why graduates choose their programs over other health care providers.

“Our graduate programs are more than just a 12-month offer, they prepare our graduates for their working life beyond that first year and hopefully a long career with our organisation," she said.

“As an organisation we support early career experiences and offer pathways that attract, develop and retain talent whilst ensuring our graduates feel welcome and part of the team.

“We are so happy that more than 85 per cent of graduates recommend our programs.

“We place a large emphasis on graduate support so hearing from many of them that the welcoming and ongoing support from our existing caregivers was one of their most memorable aspects of the program is very pleasing.

“We know we can still do more, so a key priority has been looking at our graduate retention rates. We recently introduced a careers pathway tool that is proving effective for the future career planning of graduate nurses and midwives.”

Applications for St John of God Health Care’s next intake of graduate nurses and midwives for 2024 across Victoria and Western Australia open on 15 March 2024. Applications will also open for Western Australian graduates looking to start in 2025.

Graduates who join St John of God Health Care can benefit from permanent contracts, tailored learning to real, on-the job experiences, scholarships and subsidised rates for future studies and more.
