Vincent said it was humbling to receive the scholarship.

Vincent at work “I was shocked to be chosen as a recipient as I felt there were so many other caregivers more deserving than I,” he said.

“To me, being chosen means I am trusted and valued as both a person, and a caregiver.

“It tells me I must be doing a good job and encourages me to keep it up. In short, it means a lot.”

Vincent joined St John of God Health Care in 2014. In his role, he manages the teams in both Bunbury and Busselton who care for patients receiving kidney dialysis treatment, while running the renal unit itself.

Vincent said a stay in intensive care at 15 years-of-age after he was critically injured in an altercation exposed him to the amazing work of nurses.

“I realised it’s not only soldiers who are strong and courageous. That's when I decided to become a nurse," he said.

With his new qualification, Vincent aims to continue evolving as a leader and enhancing his own performance, as an example to those he works with.

“I never dreamed that I could, or would ever be a manager, but St John of God Bunbury Hospital CEO Jeffrey Williams showed faith in me. I now want to show my appreciation and give back,” Vincent said.
