Dr Simon Edmunds is a Western Australian medical graduate who commenced gastroenterology and ERCP training at the QEII Medical Centre in 1986.

He completed gastroenterology accreditation in the UK at Guy's Hospital, London, becoming proficient in ERCP and learning endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), a new technique at the time. He also performed two years of laboratory research into liver and biliary diseases.

Following on from this, he spent a year in the United States at Duke University Medical Centre, learning advanced ERCP and endoscopic techniques in addition to undertaking further EUS training. His supervisor at the time was the doyen of ERCP, Professor Peter Cotton.

Dr Edmunds returned to Perth to a position at the Royal Perth Hospital where he has been a consultant since 1991. Since then he has overseen many advances in endoscopy and ERCP / EUS services at Royal Perth Hospital, from fibre optic endoscopes through to current advanced equipment, enabling complex ERCP / EUS guided techniques for management of biliary and pancreatic diseases. He is active in performing and teaching endoscopic procedures and therapeutic interventions.

He maintains a strong interest in hepato-biliary and pancreatic diseases and continues an active research interest in ERCP and EUS, having numerous publications in the area. He enjoys teaching and presenting at live workshops and conferences. Dr Edmunds is a gastroenterologist attending St John of God Subiaco Hospital.
