Noelle

Providing stable accommodation to vulnerable youth

Noelle said the program changed her life when she was no longer able to live at home.

“When things at home went pear-shaped, I was referred to Horizon House. Not only was I given a safe place to come home to each night, but I was given the opportunity to learn new skills, and experience new things - I learned different skills such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting,” she said.

“I also achieved things that I never thought I could, like getting my license and securing a job.”
After a year in the program, Noelle moved into transitional accommodation which meant she was one step closer to living independently.

Helping young people achieve their goals

“The biggest thing I have learned through Horizon House, is how to manage my stress and anxiety,” Noelle said.

“Without Horizon House, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It is because of Horizon House that I now have the confidence in myself to achieve my goals.”

“My two hopes for the future are to own my own home, and to travel. A few years ago, I never would’ve thought that I’d be in a position to achieve these goals, but now I am confident I will.”

About Horizon House

Horizon House helps to prevent vulnerable young people aged 16 to 22 from entering the cycle of homelessness by providing stable accommodation, care and support while they access education, training and/or employment opportunities.

Bendat Horizon House Bunbury Caregiver, Shelby said the support provided to young people through the program helped them reach their full potential.

“It is very rewarding to see young people build their confidence and self-esteem to know that they are capable of achieving what they want,” Shelby said.

“The generous support of the community helps us to provide young people with support, hope and opportunity.”
