Where we are
Dr Isaacs began his academic journey at Durham University, earning a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (Upper Second Class). He later completed his medical training at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
His postgraduate achievements include:
- Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK.
- Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
Dr Isaacs is dedicated to advancing ophthalmic research and education. He actively trains visiting fellows, medical students and junior doctors at Royal Perth Hospital.
In 2014, he undertook specialised training at the Ocular Oncology Unit in Liverpool, UK, to study the treatment of choroidal melanoma. This experience led him to introduce a prognostic biopsy service in Western Australia for patients with uveal melanoma.
His ongoing research collaborations with Edith Cowan University aim to identify high-risk patients with metastatic disease, potentially reducing the need for invasive biopsies. Dr Isaacs has been the principal and co-investigator for several studies, including:
- clinical trials for wet macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusion treatments
- genetic analysis of blood markers for uveal melanoma prognosis, supported by a 2018 grant from the Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia.
Dr Isaacs has provided vital eye care services to remote communities in Western Australia, including the Kimberley, Pilbara and central desert regions. His dedication extends internationally through his volunteer work with the charity Sight for All, where he educates and trains retinal specialists across Southeast Asia. He has made multiple visits to Laos to provide surgical training.
Dr Isaacs specialises in a wide range of advanced ophthalmic treatments, including:
