St John of God Health Care has launched the maternity app, Eve, at three of its Perth-based private hospitals to support parents through their pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey

The interactive app is available to expecting parents at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital, St John of God Murdoch Hospital and St John of God Subiaco Hospital as part of a six-month trial.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital CEO and Executive Sponsor of the Eve Project, Paul Dyer said launching the app continued a technology focus for the organisation that would meet the needs of the demographic that are currently having babies.

“We want to empower parents on their pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey by providing relevant information and digital tools to support them.

“We know that an app could never replace the knowledge of our experienced obstetric and midwifery teams but Eve includes a range of innovative features that are available to support parents 24/7 such as articles, videos, contraction timer and a midwife moderated forum.

“Eve will consolidate information for our patients who often receive paper print outs that can get lost or feel overwhelming which leads many to Google questions or symptoms which may not come from a credible source.

“The benefit of this digital platform is that we can easily update or change information or features to meet the needs of our families.

“Our hospital’s maternity teams are already producing website blogs and videos along with our obstetric specialists that can be added to the app ongoing.”

St John of God Health Care maternity services and Midwife, Zoe Islip said the app addresses key areas that could contribute to a smoother and more informed parent journey.

“The COVID-19 pandemic restrictions highlighted how important connection is for our parents and Eve will offer access to forums where they can connect with other parents that will be moderated by our midwifery team to ensure consistent information sharing.

“A key area for improvement in our services is the ability to support parents once they leave our hospital during the post-natal phase. Eve will have this capability with relevant articles and information for up to one-year post-partum.”

Eve will undergo a six-month trial period at the three hospitals and users will be asked to provide feedback before a decision is made whether to roll the service out to other St John of God Health Care hospitals.

Current maternity patients will receive registration instructions via email and new maternity patients will receive instructions at their first obstetric appointment.
