St John of God Social Outreach has released its end of year results for 2017 which show the organisation has reached out to and supported more vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and communities than ever before.   

Social Outreach services include community mental health services, perinatal mental health services, youth and accommodation services and international capacity building programs in Timor-Leste. 

CEO Social Outreach Bev East said the consolidation of all outreach services into the Social Outreach division meant that for the first time the organisation could report the depth and breadth of services. 

“In 2017 our various accommodation services provided almost 40,000 bed nights to adults and young people, and our community-based mental health services, including Raphael Services, provided 32,931 counselling sessions last year. 

“Social Outreach is made up of 209 caregivers, including over 60 clinicians, who this past year provided care and support to more than 3,800 clients. Our services operate across 36 different locations including three states and Timor-Leste. 

“We can all be proud of the contribution that outreach services have made to support people who are poor and marginalised by their circumstances.” 

Highlights from 2017 include:

• provided support and accommodation to 166 young people who would otherwise have been homeless through our Horizon House program
• provided perinatal mental health care to 1,912 new parents through our Raphael Services
• trained over 600 Timorese health professionals through our capacity building programs to deliver improved health care to the Timorese people
• provided 46 people with enduring mental health issues with safe and stable accommodation through our Casa Venegas service
