Celebrating an 11-year partnership in Timor-Leste

On Wednesday 22 March the St John of God International Health team at Timor-Leste’s Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV) celebrated the signing and renewal of Santos’ donation agreement, marking 11 years of support.

Santos has supported St John of God International Health’s capacity development programs since 2012, investing more than USD$3,350,000 over the past 11 years. Programs, developed in partnership with the Timor Ministry of Health, are aimed at improving the quality of patient care across hospitals in Timor-Leste.

There is a focus on developing the capacity of Timorese nurses, midwives and healthcare leaders through leadership and management, quality assurance and clinical learning, and mentoring support.

The renewed funding will support the Nursing and Midwifery Core Competency Program, which focuses on training nurses and midwives in professional and clinical skills, and the Health Manager Program, which aims to support leaders and managers in bringing about improved quality of hospital care to meet agreed standards.

Both programs have been linked to improved health care services focusing on patient care.

Jonathon Cini, Manager of Social Performance and Community at Santos, visited the St John of God International Health office in Timor-Leste last month and had a short tour to Paediatric and Maternity wards. Jonathon said it was a very rewarding experience to see how Santos' assistance has supported the HNGV to improve patient care and provide an enhanced standard of service.
