St John of God Health Care Group Manager Allied Health Rachel Resuggan said Allied Health Professions Day provided an opportunity to recognise our allied health caregivers’ contribution and excellent patient care over the last year.

“Our allied health caregivers work within multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated and well-coordinated care for patients recovering from injury, illness or surgery across our hospitals and services,” she said.

“They also contribute to disease prevention and control and the nutritional, physical and mental requirements of our patients and clients.

“They have been working on the frontline during our response to COVID-19, from intensive care units to rehabilitation services, and within our community based mental health services, adapting to new methods of service delivery.”

Rachel said she is proud to have three allied health caregivers, including St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals Senior Dietitian Emily Bennett, St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Senior Dietitian Amy Ekin and St John of God Geelong Hospital Occupational Therapist Karen Sheehan, completing the St John of God Health Care Clinical and Research Fellowship, in partnership with the University of Notre Dame Australia.

“Emily, Amy and Karen were selected to study a Master of Philosophy, part-time, over a three-year period, while remaining on full pay and receiving necessary leave and support to complete their studies,” she said.

“We are excited about Emily, Amy and Karen’s research and the positive impact it will have on our patients and practices in the years to come.

“Beyond the Fellowship, we are proud of our allied health caregivers and their continued hard work to help St John of God Health Care achieve its focus on clinical excellence.”
