Do you feel valued at work? Leissa, a mental health social worker at one of our community mental health services, talks about what it’s like to have that feeling every time you walk in the door.

While some people feel less than inspired to get up and go to work in the morning, Leissa from St John of God Mental Wellbeing Services doesn’t have that problem.

She says it’s the people she works with that make all the difference.

“I’m always enthusiastic to come to work every day,” says the mental health social worker, whose workplace is located in Mandurah Western Australia, 45 minutes south of Perth.

“We’ve got a great team here; friendly faces and people who are respectful and professional,” she says.

Leissa says she feels privileged to work alongside “some pretty inspiring people”.

“The colleagues that I work with are just such a great bunch of people. From the top down – the director, our CEO and in particular my manager - all make it well known how valued I am in the team,” she says.

“I feel cared for and I feel valued.”

And her role at Mental Wellbeing Services? It’s “deeply rewarding and satisfying” says Leissa of the service at which she works, which provides no-cost community-based mental health therapy to people in her local area.

She notes there are many development opportunities on offer as well, including clinical supervision, being able to mentor students and a clinical leadership program, both of which have enhanced her sense of work satisfaction.

Leissa has lived and worked in the coastal city of Mandurah for over 30 years and loves the beachside community.

“We have a wonderful lifestyle and a beautiful climate. It’s close to beaches, our beautiful south-west, and (not far from) our very diverse north-west region,” says Leissa.

“I love living in Western Australia.”
