What’s your position?

My name is Katie, and I’m a Registered Nurse and a Registered Midwife.

How long have you worked at St John of God Ballarat Hospital?

I have worked at St John of God Ballarat Hospital for the last five years.

Why were you interested in working with us?

I was interested in working at St John of God Ballarat Hospital because my values really aligned with their values. It’s a very friendly place to work, and you develop a good relationship with other caregivers and doctors.

What do you enjoy most about working with us?

I love the continuity of care we get here with our patients; I get to work across a few different areas being the antenatal office, the post-natal ward, the labour ward, and special care nursery. I get to have multiple interactions with mums and their babies, which is really rewarding.

What opportunities have you received while working with us?

Having been at St John of God Ballarat Hospital for quite a while now I have had the opportunity to upskill and work in other roles, such as being in charge, and working in other areas of the hospital as well to keep up my skills as a registered nurse and also improve my skills as a midwife.

What do you love about living in Ballarat?

I love that there is a big community vibe in Ballarat. It’s a bit more of a relaxed atmosphere than living in the city, but it’s still nice and close if we want to go down to Melbourne or the beach in Geelong. There’s lots of great shops and lots of sporting activities. There’s lots of things to do.

What do you want other people to know about working with St John of God Health Care?

I would like everyone to know that it’s a great team environment; everyone is very kind, very friendly. There’s also great opportunities here to upskill and work in different areas, and work in an area that suits you and your lifestyle.

What does St John of God Health Care do to make you feel cared about in the workplace?

We feel really supported by our management, including our Nurse Unit Managers and our supervisors. They are always really approachable and easy to go to if we ever have any concerns or have any questions about anything.
