St John of God Health Care celebrates International Nurses Day

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the vital role our nurses play in providing essential health care to every patient has become all the more visible. Despite the increased pressure, our nurses continue to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our patients and clients. For that, we are deeply grateful.

To our nurses, thank you for your efforts. We know it has been challenging and we have asked a lot of you, and your response has been amazing. You have made a real difference at this time, no matter whether you have been on the frontline, adapted and changed your role in response to need, continued your normal duties or worked behind the scenes.

From birth to death, to surgeries, mental health and chronic conditions, our nurses provide person-centred, holistic and compassionate care to our patients across our hospitals and services.

The international theme for this year is Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health, which focuses on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to strengthen health systems around the world.

Nurses make up more than 50 per cent of our workforce, so investing in them is essential so we can continue providing exceptional clinical care. We are proud to support our nurses in their career development by offering opportunities, including education, research, training and scholarships, to enable them to continue their professional growth as well as a healthy and engaging working environment that fosters a patient-first mindset.

We highly value our nurses and recognise the vital link they provide between our Mission and the people we serve. If you see or speak to a nurse today, please take the time to say thank you.

#TellUsChallenge: tell us you're a nurse, without telling us you're a nurse

We challenged our nurses to tell us they are a nurse, without directly saying the word "nurse".
