St John of God Health Care’s Group Manager Allied Health Rachel Resuggan, has been appointed chair of Catholic Health Australia’s Allied Health Committee

The Allied Health Committee, consisting of members from every hospital in the CHA’s network, will build an evidence base to help improve patient outcomes across the private and public hospital sectors.

Rachel says that as allied health professionals see patients in a diverse range of settings and work across many disciplines, they are often able to identify gaps and issues, as well as opportunities, in health care.

“Allied health is a diverse sector, the St John of God Health Care Allied Health services include physiotherapy, social workers, art therapy, music therapy, psychology, podiatry, dieticians, speech pathology, exercise physiology and occupational therapy,” Rachel said.

“Each of these disciplines has an important part to play in patient recovery and outcomes.

“The Allied Health Committee will enable us to come together to engage with government and work towards a more integrated and holistic delivery of care.

“I am honoured to now hold this inaugural position as chair of the committee and am looking forward to working with other professionals in the sector to improve health outcomes in our communities.”
