Raphael Services Blacktown Men's Night
In support of Men’s Health Week and Infant Mental Health Week, Raphael Services NSW hosted a special men-only workshop to explore the importance of male role models to a child’s development and how to best meet the emotional needs of a child.

Five dads attended the evening and shared stories about the importance of increasing interaction with their children and what that meant to them.
Raphael Services Mental Health Clinician and Social Worker Carrie Battiste and Clinical Nurse Consultant Michelle Haling, facilitated the two-hour workshop which included an introduction to key concepts from the Circle of Security parenting program.
The format of the workshop utilised a combination of short video clips, questions and discussion to encourage exploration into each father’s experience of parenting.
Carrie said the dads were brave and willing to share their personal stories with each other.
“The dads were very open to talking about their challenges with parenting, especially since a relational approach to parenting does not come naturally to all of them,” Carrie said.
“I was also impressed with their ability to demonstrate critical thinking about the topics discussed."
The attendees left the workshop feeling inspired to engage more with their children and gained confidence in mimicking the same parenting style and language as their partner.
