Dr Indunil Weerasena is a locally trained medical oncologist at St John of God Bunbury Hospital. He also provides visiting consultations to Busselton region through St John of God Health Care.

He completed his physician training at Charles Gairdner Hospital and Royal Perth hospital. He undertook specialist medical oncology training at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Charles Gairdner Hospital before becoming a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

While completing his advanced training in medical oncology at Fiona Stanley Hospital, he was awarded a Cancer Research Fellowship by the WA Cancer and Palliative Care Network program where he contributed to cancer research in identifying a highly aggressive and difficult-to-detect form of breast cancer.

Throughout his professional career, Dr Weerasena has contributed to multiple research work and has published his research work at international level. He has also contributed to develop cancer treatment protocols to help Australian health professionals.

His clinical expertise covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with special interest in breast cancers, gynecological cancers, lung cancers, gastrointestinal cancers and urological cancers.

He is also a member of several leading international and national clinical oncological societies and tumour boards.
