The first step towards recovery from addiction

Clinical Psychologist Ian Smith explains how the St John of God Burwood Hospital inpatient and outpatient program can help people recover from addictive behaviours including drug and alcohol, and gambling addiction.

Our addiction program is separated into two components – a three-week inpatient program and a subsequent 12-week outpatient course.

We recommend you complete both components so you have the greatest chance of achieving your recovery goals, however you can just complete the inpatient component and experience success.

As the only metropolitan Sydney mental health provider with the core value of hospitality, we are focused on looking after all aspects of your wellbeing and ensuring you have a successful and comfortable stay. We work closely with you and encourage your family to participate at your discretion.

Recovery is step-by-step

Our care puts you at the core of all decision making and we guide you through your recovery to give you the best chance of succeeding in your recovery goals.

Our alcohol, drugs and addictive behaviours recovery program is support by a step-by-step manual based on current evidence of what really works and is regularly updated with current information.
The manual is a step-by-step guide which combines education, self-directed worksheets and practical strategies to support you.
