Dr Gabbay graduated from University of Western Australia Medical School in 1987 and undertook specialist training in Respiratory Medicine at Royal Perth Hospital.
He undertook sub-specialty training at the Freeman Hospital (Newcastle upon Tyne), Stanford University Medical School Hospital (Palo Alto) and the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne where he completed his doctoral thesis.
In 1999, he returned to Perth to set up WA’s first advanced lung and pulmonary vascular disease program. In 2004, he became the inaugural medical director of the WA Lung Transplant Program. He is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at The University of Notre Dame (Australia) Medical School and The University of Western Australia Medical School and Associate Professor at Curtin University School of Physiotherapy.
Dr Gabbay has been in private practice as a Respiratory Physician in Perth since 1999 and now attends exclusively to St John of God Subiaco Hospital. Dr Gabbay is interested in all aspects of respiratory medicine (from age 13 upwards) and has special interests in pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, cardiorespiratory complications of rheumatological and auto-immune conditions, sarcoidosis, occupational lung disease including silicosis and severe asthma managed with biological therapies.
