New private maternity model of care
St John of God Health Care has unveiled a new model of private maternity care across Perth. Under the new model, St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital obstetrics services will transfer to St John of God Subiaco Hospital on 20 December 2023. Find out more.
Our Pregnancy, Baby and Beyond Clinic offers the following services to all women, regardless of where they delivered their baby (no GP referral required):
Perinatal mental health
Our perinatal mental health midwife is available to support you and your family with specialist mental health care during pregnancy and the fourth trimester.
Birth reflections
We know that events surrounding a baby’s birth may be confusing, unexpected and not necessarily what you had hoped for.
The birth reflection appointment aims to give you a chance to explore your birth experience with our dedicated birth reflections midwife.
Lactation consultants
We have an experienced team of lactation consultants who can provide tailored breastfeeding support for you and your baby up until your baby is 12 months of age.
This service is also available for women during pregnancy to prepare individualised plans based on your unique needs.
To access these services, please book an appointment with the Pregnancy, Baby and Beyond Clinic by calling 08 9370 9793 (no GP referral is required).
Services available for St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital maternity patients
In addition to the fourth trimester services, we will continue to provide the following to all St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital maternity patients through our Pregnancy, Baby and Beyond Clinic.
Pre-admission appointment
One of our endorsed midwives will call all maternity patients to discuss their upcoming admission and answer any questions they may have.
This service can be booked through My Admission once the admission paperwork is submitted.
The Safer Baby Bundle phone call
The Safer Baby Bundle is a national initiative aimed to reduce the number of stillborn babies.
All maternity patients will be offered a one-on-one phone call with an endorsed midwife.
Planned cardiotocography (CTG) and anti-D administration
Referrals to these services are made by the treating obstetrician and facilitated at our Pregnancy, Baby and Beyond Clinic.
Iron infusions
Referral to this service is made by the obstetrician and facilitated at our Pregnancy, Baby and Beyond Clinic.
Planned caesarean section pre-admission clinic
All women booked for an elective caesarean section will be seen in the clinic, ensuring all paperwork is completed and any questions can be answered prior to their planned caesarean.
Post-delivery care
Our endorsed midwives will follow up all women who have birthed at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital, ensuring a smooth transition to home life with their new family member/s.
We will check on the mum’s and baby’s health, and offer additional support and advice if needed, forwarding any concerns to their obstetrician.
Location
The clinic is located in the St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Medical Centre, Level 1, Suite 11.
*The fourth trimester refers to the postpartum period starting from the day your baby is born through to when they are 12 weeks old. These weeks can be particularly intense or challenging, especially for first time parents.
