Chronic pain management

Chronic pain is debilitating pain that lasts for 3 months or longer. It is often caused by arthritis, back pain, muscular or neurological pain.

Sometimes it can be hard to pinpoint the cause of pain, and it can be frustrating not to have a clear diagnosis. We consider your physical and emotional wellbeing and work closely with you to develop rehabilitation plans which meet your needs.

We offer chronic pain management services and programs to help you best manage your health, wellbeing and pain.

Our chronic pain management services and programs

Our chronic pain management services and programs offer different ways to manage your pain.

A tailored health care plan may be developed by your health care team, and may include:

  • assessing medications to manage pain and how well these work for you
  • pain physiology education to develop an accurate understanding of acute and chronic pain, contributors to pain experience and effective management
  • therapy to help you become more physically active, while considering factors that may aggravate your pain and strategies to reduce it
  • long-term strategies to help you function and go about your daily activities
  • relaxation and distraction strategies that may help you manage your pain.

Neurological rehabilitation

Neurological rehabilitation may help you recover after a stroke, a spinal cord or head injury, or if you have Parkinson’s disease, motor neuron disease or multiple sclerosis.

We provide specialised neurological rehabilitation services to help you and your family plan and prepare for your recovery and your ability to return home and live independently.

Our neurological rehabilitation services

Our neurological rehabilitation services and health care team may develop an individualised health care plan to help reduce your difficulty with memories, speech or swallowing or with regaining balance, mobility and flexibility.

This plan may include:

  • assistance with daily activities such as eating, dressing, toileting, cooking and housekeeping
  • speech therapy to help you speak, swallow, read and write
  • therapy for stress, anxiety and depression
  • activities to help get you moving such as muscle control when you are walking and balance
  • group or individual education programs to help you learn about falls prevention, managing medications, relaxation and fatigue management
  • help for you and your family to find support groups in your community
  • ongoing reviews by your health care team to help you manage and treat your symptoms.
