Our ear, nose and throat services

Ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery helps diagnose, manage and treat a wide range of conditions affecting the ears, nose, throat, sinuses, head and neck. This specialty is also referred to as otolaryngology or head and neck surgery.

We provide ENT care for both adults and children, from common conditions such as sinusitis and tonsillitis through to more complex procedures, including cochlear implantation, thyroid surgery and head and neck cancer surgery.

Many of our ENT specialists are experienced in caring for children and provide treatment in a safe, supportive and compassionate environment.

Ear conditions

Glue ear and otitis media can be treated by grommets – tiny ventilation tubes surgically inserted in the ear drum.

Exostosis (also known as ‘surfers ear’) are bony growths inside the ear canal which can grow over time because of long term exposure to cold, wind or water. These are common in swimmers and surfers, and surgery is often undertaken to remove the exostosis and widen the ear canal.

Cochlear implants are implantable hearing aids, which can be an option for people who have severe hearing loss or inner ear damage.

Nose conditions

Our specialists are trained in surgical procedures to a range of nose and sinus conditions such as treatments for nasal congestion, deviated septum and recurrent sinusitis.

Throat conditions

Many common conditions can be treated by surgery which may help with breathing problems and sleep disorders. This includes tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, tongue surgery and procedures to the voice box.

Head and neck procedures

These procedures may treat or remove lumps or lesions in the head and neck, mouth or salivary glands.

Specialised procedures may be needed to treat head and neck conditions, including:

  • thyroid surgery
  • parotid surgery
  • head and neck cancer surgery
  • surgery on the lymph nodes in the neck.
