Love made real’ was the theme of St John of God Day this year. The theme captured the way St John of God cared for those around him. He expressed love through more than just words. He expressed it through genuine, tangible and visible acts of love.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, St John of God Murdoch Hospital Director of Mission Integration, Jenni Ashton reflected on what love “looked like” at Murdoch,

“Hayley, despite her own busy workload, took on extra tasks for her colleague.

“Hannah stayed at work for two hours after her shift finished to ensure continuity of care; and Monique’s care for a new dad made a traumatic experience more manageable.

“Rose worked tirelessly to help secure permanent housing, while Emily custom built a patient cushion on her weekend.

“Daniel found himself in a situation that required him to think quickly and compassionately outside the square; and Del’s impact was felt repeatedly over several years.

“Ash’s demeanor and knowledge improved a horrific time and Erin’s wonderful care of a new mum set her up for success when she got home.

“Alison’s actions meant more than words could describe; Peter’s calming presence and conversation helped ease the pain; and Belinda’s cultural sensitivity ensured a smooth transition of care in the midst of complex emotions.”

St John of God Murdoch Hospital CEO, Ben Irish highlighted the significance of being shortlisted as a Caregiver of the Year nominee,

“Of 2,400 caregivers, 120 are nominated across the year. To be one of 12 in the running for Caregiver of the Year is extremely significant – it’s a monumental achievement,”
Ben said.

“Thank you for being shining examples of our values in action every day – and congratulations.”
