Dr Tessa Blom appointed as Head of Emergency Department

St John of God Murdoch Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr Tessa Blom has been appointed as Head of Emergency Medicine for the Murdoch Emergency Department.

Tessa Blom Head of Emergency DepartmentDr Blom has worked in various emergency departments across Perth before joining St John of God Murdoch Hospital as an emergency physician in 2016.

She has spent the past six months as the Acting Head of Emergency Department.

St John of God Murdoch Hospital Director of Medicine Dr Andrew Wesseldine said Dr Blom’s dedication and compassion has been evident to all within the hospital.

“Tessa has led our Emergency Department team through a challenging period with great kindness and authenticity,” he said.

“Tessa is excited as we look towards future growth within our Emergency Department, along with continuing our ability to serve our community, and to build our wonderful team of clinicians and nurses in conjunction with Jessica Hawke, our Nurse Unit Manager Emergency Department.”

Dr Blom was born in Perth and grew up in Malaysia, where she received Chinese education for primary and secondary qualifications.

Following this, she moved to Russia when she was 16 and commenced her medical training in St Petersburg before moving back to Perth in 2005, after she had completed her internship.

Dr Blom said although she does not get a lot of free time with a four-year-old at home, she has a passion for travel and enjoys reading and eating out.

“I feel very privileged that I have had the opportunity to live amongst different cultures and travel to most parts of the world,” she said.

“I look forward to continuing to explore the world when the chance arises.”

“In the meantime, I really enjoy working at Murdoch – we have a great team here and I’m looking forward to what the future will bring.”
