Not your average hospital catering

St John of God Murdoch Hospital kitchen is a fast-paced environment and we work hard.

We work hard because we care. We care about our patients receiving the best compassionate care and we know that while in hospital, meals are an important part of a patient’s stay and recovery.

You’ll also have the chance to lead delicious innovation throughout the year, creating menus and delivering culinary creativity to our onsite function centres, corporate events, Christmas marquee and various hospitality events throughout the year.

What’s next? You tell us! We are always looking for new ideas and amazing ways we can deliver above and beyond expectations.

About our workplace

While you’re busy caring for others, the hospital is busy caring about you. We invest in our people with training, and professional and personal development. These aren’t just throw away lines, we mean it.

We are looking for people with a good work ethic. You’ll be rewarded with benefits and perks beyond your pay check, but there’s also something you can’t put a price on. You’ll go home feeling fulfilled about a solid day’s work. Work that has made a huge difference in someone’s life.

We invest in our people with training, and professional and personal development. We are the only Australian hospital licensed to facilitate US-created, world-leading healthcare leadership and patient experience programs. In addition, we also teach and practice mindfulness and meditation to ensure you are feeling great.

Murdoch kitchens

The main kitchen in the hospital is a hub of activity. We cook and serve meals to order for all in-patients. So what you will find is a new, well laid out kitchen with your hot cooking stations, cold larder, bakery and deli section.

Then, there’s the Burlodge loading and charging station, which is a system we use to serve meals at the correct temperature. Room service might be fairly new here, but we are now a well-oiled machine and the volume and flow we pump out all day long is incredible.

Nearby on campus, our Hospice has smaller kitchen managed by one chef to feed patients, borders and visitors in the Hospice. While not on the same grand scale as our main kitchen, from this smaller kitchen we still prepare the same room service meals on demand.

Life on the Murdoch campus

Not only do we have two hospital-owned cafes, we also have the Coffee Club onsite, a retail pharmacy and The General Sherman for meals and an after work drink.

Nearby are our friends at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Murdoch University and TAFE. There’s even the Wanslea Early Learning centre a stone’s throw away for the little ones.

What do our catering team say about working at Murdoch?

  • "I like the variety of working in different areas of the kitchen."
  • "It is a good feeling knowing you are cooking for someone who is not well and being able to give them a lovely, warm meal."
  • "I enjoy the great work-life balance and not having to work all nights."
