Members of the community were treated to a delightful musical experience as they entered St John of God Subiaco Hospital’s newly renovated main foyer, thanks to a performance by the Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC) Serenity String Quartet.
The talented group, comprising Year 11 and 12 students, performed a selection of classical and contemporary pieces, creating an uplifting atmosphere to celebrate the foyer’s reopening.
The renovation has transformed the area into a more welcoming and contemporary environment for patients, visitors, caregivers and medical specialists. It marks a key achievement in stage two of the hospital’s major redevelopment project.
St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Tina Chinery expressed her delight at the event and praised the students’ performance.
“We were thrilled to welcome them here to celebrate this milestone and bring life to the revitalised space,” she said.
“In a hospital environment, the main foyer takes on a particularly important role. It’s the first place that patients and visitors encounter, and it serves as a place of gathering and connection, often during vulnerable times.
“We recognise that music can be incredibly healing and restorative, and it was wonderful to witness the joy and smiles it brought to everyone this morning. The students sounded incredible.”
MLC Director of Music Pamela Grubb added that the students relished the opportunity to come onsite and perform for the enjoyment of the community.
“Our girls love being able to bring the joy of music to others, and seeing the smiles on the faces of visitors, patients and hospital staff as they passed by made this morning very meaningful for our students.”
Stage two of the redevelopment project, which commenced at the beginning of the year, also includes an upgrade of the main forecourt area, a site-wide lift replacement program, construction of a new site energy and water plant, and multi-storey carpark upgrades.
