Honouring Cait’s wish – creating healing spaces for patients, visitors and caregivers

In 2020, landscape architect Cait Graveley, 39, was diagnosed with advanced cancer.

Not long after, Cait's husband Adam was also diagnosed with cancer. Tragically, his disease progressed quickly, and he passed away in early 2021.

Despite her deep sadness, Cait faced her illness with grace, positivity and a deep love for her two daughters, Thea and Fearn, as well as her family and friends.

Even throughout her treatment, she retained her zest for life and spoke often about her desire to redesign the central courtyard adjacent to the Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre (BFCCC) and the Ward 35 balcony.

Her vision was to create beautiful, healing spaces for the benefit of patients, visitors and caregivers. Sadly, Cait passed away before she could realise her wish.

Now, landscape architects Helen Whitbread (Cait’s mum) and Megan Salom (Cait’s close friend) are working with St John of God Subiaco Hospital to honour her legacy. Together, they aim to bring Cait’s Wish to life.

To do this, members of the community who have a connection to the BFCCC are invited to contribute ideas and thoughts to help develop the designs for these healing garden spaces.
