This week highlights the critical role of breastfeeding and honours the diverse experiences of mothers who choose to breastfeed. The theme for this year, ‘Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All,’ emphasises the importance of families, communities and health workers coming together to support every breastfeeding journey.

Navigating the early days of breastfeeding can be challenging for new mums as they adjust to their new role and their baby's needs. To support new mothers during this significant time, Rite Aid Australia has teamed up with St John of God Subiaco Hospital to provide more than 80 special care packs to maternity patients throughout World Breastfeeding Week.

Each pack includes the award-winning Rite Aid Hydrogel Breast Discs and Ultra-Comfort Nursing Pads, complemented by a lovely flower posy. These thoughtfully curated packs aim to offer both practical and emotional support, providing new mums with a positive start to their breastfeeding journey.

In addition to offering antenatal lactation classes and ongoing breastfeeding support through their parent education program, St John of God Subiaco Hospital has recently introduced the Pregnancy, Baby & Beyond Clinic. The Clinic, staffed by specialist lactation consultants, offers personalised breastfeeding support to new and expectant mothers.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital Clinical Midwife Specialist Felicity Anderson said that the hospital’s dedication to maternal and infant health means lactation consultants can now support mothers and their babies up to 12 months old through the clinic’s services.

“We also provide support during pregnancy to help create individualised plans based on each mother's unique needs,” she said.

“We take pride in offering personalised care and tailored services to ensure a positive and well-supported experience through pregnancy and beyond."

The hospital also offers antenatal breastfeeding classes and ongoing support at their parent education classes.
