The tour, which sold out with a waitlist, gave delegates from a wide range of health care and aged care organisations a chance to explore how the hospital integrates innovation into its non-clinical services, including hospitality, catering and support operations.

Among the professionals who participated were representatives from The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Department of Health, Healthshare NSW, Queensland Health, The University of Adelaide, The Bethanie Group Inc. and Fremantle Hospital.

During the tour, Acting Manager of Catering Service Sarah King and Executive Chef Michael Abeyakoon shared insights into the hospital’s approach to providing high quality patient care through hospitality services. Delegates had the opportunity to see how the hospital’s operations, from foodservice to environmental services, contribute to patient experience and outcomes.

Sarah said the feedback was overwhelmingly positive and it was rewarding to hear how much participants appreciated the insight into how the hospital integrates hospitality and care at every level.

“They were genuinely impressed by the scale and efficiency of our kitchen facilities, and many expressed their appreciation for the rare opportunity to tour a working foodservice operation in a hospital setting,” she said.

The tour was part of a broader program at the IHHC Conference, which brought together thought leaders to discuss the role of innovation in shaping a culture of care within health care and aged care services. For St John of God Subiaco Hospital, it was an opportunity to showcase the behind the scenes work that helps to support patient care and improve the overall hospital experience.
