Cardiologist launches book to promote healthier hearts

With more than 40 years of experience, St John of God Subiaco Hospital Cardiologist Dr Johan Janssen is incredibly passionate about helping people understand heart health.

Ultimately, it was this passion that motivated Dr Janssen to write ‘Your Heart Maintenance’, a book that provides patients, health professionals and the general public light-hearted advice about the importance of caring for their cardiovascular health.

“The heart is arguably our most important organ, but many people do not understand how to care for it,” Dr Janssen said.

“As a cardiologist, a large part of my role is educating patients about heart function and health.

“While there is a great deal of health and medical information available online, it can be difficult to differentiate fact from fiction.

“I wanted to bridge the divide between doctor and patient, and create an engaging book that can empower people of all ages and fitness levels to live a healthy and happy life.”

Cardiovascular disease is a major health issue and leading cause of death in Australia. An estimated 1.2 million adults suffer from a heart or vascular condition.
