Stephanie chose to switch from maternity care at the public hospital to take advantage of the low-cost private maternity care Bundle package now available at St John of God Geelong Hospital when she was about halfway through her pregnancy.

“When I found out I was pregnant earlier this year, our financial situation had changed so we thought we would just go public,” she said.

“Then out-of-the-blue the Bundle maternity ad came up on Facebook.

“We made the decision to switch because we could afford to pay the $990 out-of-pocket, and we were more comfortable with having a longer stay in hospital and having my husband able to stay with me was important for us.”

The Bundle maternity package offers a low-cost, team care approach to pregnancy management from St John of God Geelong Hospital’s obstetricians and midwives.

The package is now available for Geelong women, who have a low-risk pregnancy and private health insurance including maternity cover, who want the benefits of private maternity care at the more affordable price of $990.

The package includes all pregnancy management fees for pregnancy and after birth appointments. Some potential small additional costs may be charged depending on pregnancy and birth needs, for example if an anaesthetist or paediatrician is required to attend the birth.

Stephanie said her experience went beyond her expectations.

“The first time I went to them, I felt really welcome. It has been a very good experience to be seen by the obstetricians and midwives,” she said.

Omar said he valued the bonding time in hospital.

“It has been really good. I get to stay here overnight and help out, including feeding the baby overnight.”
