Celebrating exceptional patient centered care and services

St John of God Subiaco Hospital caregivers recently celebrated St John of God Day - the feast day for the patron saint of hospitals, nurses and the sick.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Prof Shirley Bowen with Patient Health Information Services (PHIS) Manager Karen Burn, accepting the Wexford Award on behalf of the PHIS team. 

To recognise the day, delicious Portuguese Tarts were provided to caregivers for morning tea, acknowledging St John of God’s birthplace in Portugal.

In addition, awards were presented to teams and individuals who go ‘above and beyond’ to consistently demonstrate St John of God Subiaco Hospital’s core values of hospitality, compassion, respect, justice and excellence.

The Wexford Award, which recognises excellence in teamwork, was presented to the Patient Health Information Services (PHIS) Team. The hospital’s Pharmacy, Infection Prevention Control and Marketing Teams received the Highly Commended Wexford Award for collaboratively establishing the Caregiver COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic.

Outstanding individuals who were recognised with Pomegranate Awards were Nurse Practitioner Palliative Care Lou Angus, Deputy Director of Clinical Development and Operations – Redevelopment Annie Thompson, Lactation Consultant - Clinical Midwife & Parent Educator Judith Foster, Environmental Services Assistant Anu Silva, and CNC Breast Care Nurse Joan Burgess.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Prof Shirley Bowen commented that it was a pleasure to present the awards and to thank caregivers for their outstanding patient centered care and services.

“It is important that our patients feel valued and incredibly well looked after by those who care for them. It is wonderful to see our hospital community come together every day to achieve this goal,” she said.
