While Jill had hoped to sew the scrubs herself, she sadly passed away in September this year.

However, Jill’s dream was kept alive by her daughter, sister and best friends who crafted and delivered 15 scrubs in memory of the woman they loved so dearly.St John of God Subiaco Hospital caregivers were grateful to receive handmade Christmas scrubs in loving memory of long-term patient, Jill Buist

Nurse unit manager of the Ivy Suite, the hospital’s day chemotherapy unit, Susanna Murphy, reflected on the extraordinary friendship that the Ivy Suite caregivers shared with Jill.

“We cared for Jill intermittently since 2014. When you spend so much time with someone over many years and during incredibly challenging life stages, you develop an extraordinary bond,” Susanna said.

“Jill was one of the strongest people I’ve ever met. Despite all that she was going through, she always remembered and celebrated our personal milestones such as birthdays and marriages. That was the kind of person she was.”

Jill’s daughter Skye said one of her mum’s favourite quotes was ‘it is what is it’.

“My mum would be so happy to know that the scrubs were finished in her honour, as she always had so much love for the nurses and doctors who cared for her at St John of God Subiaco Hospital,” Skye said.

Caregivers were delighted and emotional when they received their scrubs, and wear them with pride.

“I feel like I have a little bit of Jill with me and I am constantly reminded of her compassion, strength and kindness. She is someone we will never forget,” Susanna said.
