“St John of God Geelong Hospital offered me the role of Nurse Unit Manager – Theatre in March and I have enjoyed becoming part of the close knit theatre team,” Simone said.

“I wanted to be closer to home and be involved in facilitating the best care for the community that I live in, and the hospital gave me an opportunity to do just that.”

Simone said her role has provided her with the opportunity to expand her nursing and leadership skillset and knowledge.

“My role allows me to engage and support caregivers, allowing them to achieve their work goals and aspirations,” she said.

“I understand the value the caregivers provide to delivering best care. We could not give the care our community deserves without the contribution of every caregiver.

“We have a large theatre suite at our hospital, which covers a large variety of surgical specialties.

“With every day being as varied as it is, it presents a great opportunity for caregivers new to theatre nursing to learn theatre skills in all areas and for experienced nurses to challenge themselves daily.”

Simone said she also enjoyed connecting with patients.

“Supporting a patient through their anaesthetic and recovery journey is also exceptionally rewarding,” she said.

“It is a privilege to be able to connect with patients and support them through what could be one of their toughest days.”
